WHO THE FREYA intends to question existing structures (in ourselves and in society) by opening up a space of vulnerability, playfulness and empowerment. Music and sound are the most prominent elements of the performance (in a mobile performance concept consisting of a small loop station, vocals and one e-guitar). The audience is taken on a dreamy-utopian-past-future-present-earth-and-space-journey with the intention to gently invite to be an active part of the performance, in the hope of dissolving illusions of separation and hierarchy.

Freya is the Goddess of sensuality, love, lust, death and FREEDOM. In an age of change, in a time of chaos and confusion, we all need guidance. But who can guide us? Maybe we can find a guide by looking back to mythic times, to the Gods and Goddesses across the world. With their ancient wisdom, the power of archetypes, we might conjure the spirit of Freya and her wagon with her two Cats, riding across the sky. But thinking backwards is not enough, we must look to the future, as well as the past, to understand the present. We are summoning an in-between-space. We are summoning the dreamworld, where deep truths and illusions might be found, walking hand in hand, in peace. How do we learn to differentiate between the two? Wether you believe in astrology or not “THE AGE OF AQUARIUS” is a great image of a new world that breaks with all the old structures and releases the potential for great change, WHO THE FREYA works with this imagery on a subtle and unspoken level; This performance is about questioning everything, at the same time, it is about learning how to love, fully and completely. Each other. And ourselves. Looking inwards. And then daring to look out again.

WHO THE FREYA is an experimental audio visual storytelling project created by Sabrina Pollinger and Joanna Bloom. Both artists have lived and worked with creative projects in the Berlin underground art scene for years before meeting in Switzerland. Sabrina originates from Switzerland with a background as actress, performer and musician, and Joanna comes from Denmark with experience as MC, illustrator, musician and interactive space creator. WHO THE FREYA draws inspiration from artists and personalities like David Bowie, Laurie Anderson, and Lauryn Hill (among others). Through the magic of vocal effects and a loop-station, everything is possible, as Joanna takes the shape of many characters; robots, creepy creatures, and ancient spirits, while Sabrina inhabits an eccentric out-of-space character on her journey to learn about herself and planet earth.
